Edmonton update…

Walked around the city a bit...in the friggin snow no less. Got a bunch of photos to upload. Edmonton reminds me a lot of Quebec, not quite as hilly but sloping in some parts nonetheless. A lot the buildings have similar styles of architecture. Tonight is a sponsered dinner and tomorrow brings work.

Gotta love email posting!

OMFG…

So my new game is NCAA March Madness 07. And I started dynasty mode with Villanova. Well I just upset the number 1 team in the country…Kansas (well at least ranked in the game at that time).  It was the most excited that I’ve ever had with a basketball videogame, dare I say the most excitement I’ve had ever in my videogaming career! I was down by 15 with 7 minutes to go, and yes sir, I mounted the comeback. Mike Nardi was liquid drano from behind the arc. I pulled ahead by 3 with 5 seconds left; Kansas drove the court and nailed a strongly contested buzzer beater.

We go to overtime, Kansas pulls ahead by 7. With 1:30 left, Nardi goes all nylon again, draining 3 after 3. Will Sheridan steps up with a key block which started the go head fast break. From that point on all Kansas could do was foul me in the hopes of getting a break. No sir…Upset City Dunk-A-Roo. Oh baby, I love this game!

Children of Men…

Here is a film that I could not wait to see. Out of all the end of the year films, this was the one that I wanted to see the most. And this is the film that I was most disappointed it. The cinematography…amazing, the war scenes…amazing, the performances…top notch, the point…I have no fucking idea.

What was the fucking point of this film? Was it to say that humanity is flawed and that we don’t deserve to live? Or that when faced with our greatest threat we won’t rally together and rise above?  Or that we are on that very path of doom and gloom and if we don’t correct out current path that will become our future? I guess all of those things are possible. But the lack of a stance was just plain annoying. And that was just plain disappointing, because what was the reason to see this film. I could have guess all of the above on my own, without wasting 2 hrs and 7 bucks (matinee ftw).

Curse of the Golden Flower…

Yimou Zhang is amazing. Every time I watch one of his films, I feel like I’m watching a film in color for the first time in my life. Based purely on the image presented on the screen this film is amazing. Sadly pretty visuals will only get you so far. The rest of this film was a mess.

The writers try to build suspense and intrigue, but fail miserably.  They throw out twist after twist after twist, but none of the twists are that interesting and many are just plain silly. And since this film wants to live on plot instead of fight scenes it’s unfortunate that it feels like something writers for a soap opera would come up instead of a world class director.

The fights scenes, while few and far between are nicely done. Shame there was not more of them to distract us from the disastrous story.
