Rendition…

Seems to be a theme with me lately, but this is not the movie that I wanted to see. All of Rendition should have been the first act in much bigger movie. I wanted them to take it further…show the run from capture, the consequences in participating in acts of rendition, the consequences on blowing the whistle against your own government, etc…

What happens to the Jake Gyllenhaal character after going to the Washington Post? How does the Anwar adjust to a non torture lifestyle? What happens to the government officials that hauled his ass to Africa? Granted in real life these answers would be pretty dull; Anwar lives in fear that they might do it again, Gyllenhaal ends up dead, and the government officials are told not to be so sloppy next time.

Atonement…

This film is just sad and depressing. You want nothing to hope for the main characters, but then have those hopes ultimately smashed. You almost wish that this film were based on real people, because only real life could be so tragic. But it’s not. While all the technical details of this film are great, the acting, writing, etc…you still leave this film being dejected and disheartened. Skip it.
